Dear fellow IITians:

As you probably already know, the recent flood-related disaster has caused massive loss of life and property in Roorkee's home state of Uttarakhand. The large scale flooding, land slides and destruction has left large numbers dead or missing and even more displaced, stranded and without livelihood or shelter. There is a huge task of rehabilitation and reconstruction in Uttarakhand, for which IIT Roorkee is getting prepared to contribute wholeheartedly with labor, technology and spirit. Many employees and students of IIT Roorkee are also providing financial contributions to aid this effort.

It makes me proud to hear about the alumni initiative to raise funds for these rehabilitation efforts. I would encourage and appreciate all such contributions towards the "IIT Roorkee - Uttarakhand Reconstruction Fund". I have been given to understand that IIT Roorkee Alumni Association of North America and IIT Roorkee Heritage Foundation are working together to collect these funds on our behalf in North America, and these funds will go a long way in helping whatever rehabilitation effort that IIT Roorkee will involve itself in Uttarakhand. Similar efforts are being initiated by alumni in India too. These funds will be added to other contributions toward IIT Roorkee's efforts for rehabilitation and repair of the devastated areas of Uttarakhand.

I encourage you all to give wholeheartedly to this noble cause to help Uttarakhand recover its pristine beauty and heritage.

With best regards

Pradipta Banerji
