Sept 2nd (Chicago) IIT Roorkee alumni, known as Thomasonians, concluded their North America Reunion at Hotel Hyatt Lisle, in Chicagoland. This one and half day conference finished with a call to all alumni to attend and participate in a big way in the PAN IIT Global Conference being held in Houston in Nov-Dec 2013. Panels on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership covered insights from prominent Angel Investors, VCs, CEOs, Researchers, Academicians and other thought leaders. Pitchfest with elevator pitches was a big hit for both budding and established entrepreneurs. For more details on the panels and the accomplished alumni participants, please read Program Global Directory Initiative IIT Roorkee's Dean of Alumni Affairs, Dr S P Gupta was an active participant and initiated a much needed infrastructure effort, Global Directory Initiative. This initiative will provide the much needed alumni information in a secure way to verified alumni. A team has been put together led by Dean Gupta to get this launched on IITR Charter Day, Nov 25th 2012. IITR Entrepreneur Forum During the Chicago 2012 Annual Reunion, we launched an Entrepreneur Forum that consisted of many experienced Angel/Venture Capital investors. As a first step to a longer-term engagement, the Forum hosted a Venture Pitchfest that was highly successful and generated a lot of excitement with nearly a dozen start-ups/prospects pitching their ideas for funding or networking or other needs. The IIT-R Entrepreneur Forum is led by Manoj Goel (Bay Area), and currently comprises of Shantanu Agarwal (Houston), Ray Mehra (Chicago), Eddie Nath (Chicago) and Dr. Sanjiv Sinha (Ann Arbor). The Forum plans to continue promoting entrepreneurship through networking, education, and mentoring with the following objectives:
Awards & Recognitions Keeping with the Roorkee tradition, the Thomasonian seniors distributed the memento and awards to the speakers, panelists, and volunteers. Two special awards were presented to "Prof Shamsher Prakash" and "Indra and Roshan Goel" for their leadership and support to the cause of Roorkee and its alumni. |
