Vipin Goswami (B.Tech. 2001), Senior IT Strategist/Planner

Vipin did his B. Tech from IIT Roorkee in 2001. Vipin Goswami is President of IIT Roorkee Alumni Association Bay Area (North California) Chapter since 2018 and coordinated several events such as Summer Picnic, IIT Roorkee Diwali Dinner, Pan IIT Diwali Dhamaka, and Technical Conferences.

Vipin has been working in Dell Technologies as Senior IT Strategist/Planner for Go-To- Market. Vipin has played several roles in Dell Technologies including strategy, resources & roadmap planning, business requirements’ analysis, sizing, and estimation, program management, portfolio management, business process analysis, and implementation of the software applications. Vipin has been driving several initiatives in Dell and managing a global application portfolio, with geographically-distributed stakeholders such as business partners, development teams, deployment teams, and support teams.

Before joining Dell, Vipin worked on multiple projects at client sites such as CISCO, Hyperion, Forcr10, Fujitsu, Trimble, Brocade, Wyse Technology, Trimble Navigation etc. and worked directly with business and IT stakeholders to implement end to end Oracle E-business Suits (Oracle 11i ERP and CRM).

Apart from Dell, Vipin owns TWO Schools (Safari Kid) in Bay area California and successfully running Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, school Age, and Summer Camp Programs for 18 months till 12 year old kids.

Manish Saraf (B.Arch. '91)

Manish did his Bachelor of Architecture from University of Roorkee in 1991 and Master of Science in Architecture from University of Cincinnati, USA, in 1996. He owns companies that deal with real estate analysis, financial structuring and development in the Greater Washington DC area.

Apart from the companies that focus on real estate, he runs an international business for marketing leather work gloves from India into the USA market. Manish has been instrumental in significantly growing the Indian Leather Glove market share in the USA over the past 15 years.

Manish is settled with his family in the Greater Washington DC area. His wife Anu Saraf is an Architect and MBA. She is actively involved in his real estate businesses. Manish and Anu have a daughter, Anika (14 years) and son, Avi (11 years).

Ashutosh Malaviya (BE '87 Electrical), VP of AI

Ashutosh Malaviya is currently the VP of AI at Movable Ink, creating the machine learning based solutions for Movable Ink Platform's visual language of creative expressions. He has extensive experience of creating software applications using Deep Learning, Data Science, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Statistical Modeling. He is passionate about Movable Ink's terabytes of contextual data for Machine Learning.

Prior to joining Movable Ink, Ashutosh was the co-founder of several startups and held senior AI and Engineering leadership positions at SmartZip Analytics and Yatra Corporation. Before co-founding these startups, he was a research scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. Ashutosh holds a Master's and Ph.D from the Technical University of Berlin and a Bachelor of Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Roorkee.

Ashutosh’s wife is a middle school teacher and their two daughters are working professionals.

Sanjay Joshi (BE '89 Computer Science & Technology), Google, ex-Tibco and SAP

Sanjay grew up in the University of Roorkee campus starting from when his father, Prof SK Joshi, joined the Physics department in 1967.

Even after Prof Joshi left Roorkee for NPL, Sanjay continued at Roorkee after being admitted to the Computer Science & Engineering undergraduate program. He graduated in 1989 from Roorkee - a class that also included Amitabh Singhal and Shivajee Samdarshi.

He completed his MS is Computer Science from University of Southern California. Later, he worked at Tibco, where Shivajee was one of the early employees. After tempting fate at a few dot-com startups, he joined SAP in 2001 and later Google in 2004.

At Google, he has worked as a Software Engineer in Ads, Search and Core Systems. He currently leads a team that provides tracing and debugging services for large scale distributed systems at Google.

Sanjay lives in California with wife Mita formerly Assistant Professor at Lucknow University, daughter Suchita currently undergraduate student at U. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and son Parmarth. 

Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director IIT Roorkee

Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi received the B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1986, 1988, and 1995, respectively.

He served the Department of Electronics Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi from 1994 to 1996. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

In 1999, he moved to Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur where he also held the positions of Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dean of Research & Development and Deputy Director.

He is now the Director of IIT Roorkee.

Prof. Chaturvedi was the Coordinator of the BSNL-IITK Telecom Centre of Excellence which has done a large number of projects for the Indian telecom sector. He is a recipient of the INSA Teachers award, the Distinguished Teacher award of IIT Kanpur and Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship of Nanyang Technical University, Singapore. He is a founding member of the Telecom Standards Development Society of India (TSDSI). Prof. Chaturvedi was a member of the DoT committee which recommended criteria for spectrum allocation to telecom operators, in 2008. His research interests are in communication theory and wireless communications.

Prof Harpreet Singh (M.S. '66 Ph.D. '71)

Harpreet Singh (M’73–SM’85) received his B.Sc. Eng. degree from Punjabi University, India, in 1963 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Roorkee, India, in 1966 and 1971.

He taught at the University of Roorkee from 1963 to 1981. Since 1981 he has been with Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, where he has been a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

He has worked in diversified areas of systems, networks, controls, computers, fuzzy logic, DNA Nano-digital circuits, bio-circuits and VLSI design.

Dr. Singh has more than 300 publications in international journals and conferences and has received a number of awards. He has organized a number of national and international conferences and has supervised more than 25 Ph.D. theses in different areas of electrical and computer engineering.

He has been awarded the distinguished Alumni Award of prestigious IIT Roorkee in 2012.

As a founder chair of Life Affinity Group of South Eastern Michigan section, the section received 2017 IEEE Life Member Affinity Group Achievement award.

Dr. Atma R. Sahu (1973-Ph.D-Mathematics) is a Professor of Mathematics at Coppin State University, USA. He has published numerous research papers in US domestic, leading India journals and international refereed journals in the areas of vibrations of elastic beams, computational mathematics, and mathematical modeling. He also has made significant contributions in educational aspects of problem-solving, systems approach, teacher education, online curriculum and instruction design in STEM fields, and Engineering Ethics Education. His research collaborations have no boundaries, and he has numerous co-workers in research institutions in India as well as in the USA.

Dr. Sahu successfully wrote NSF-DST supported workshop grant to increase multi-author research involving international collaboration on the Elastic Vibrations, Smart Structures, and Their Solution Technologies, and hosted jointly at IIT Roorkee (University of Roorkee). Dr. Sahu's excellence in service has no border and has impacted by serving Ph.D. examiners of numerous research scholars, and delivered keynotes. He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Fuzzy Computation and Modelling, and Co-Editor of the Journal of Advances In Acoustics and Vibration.

He is a co-founder of PanIIT Board of Directors USA and currently serving as a President and co-founder board of director of IIT Roorkee Foundation Inc, USA. The PanIIT logo was designed and produced by the PanIIT team that he chaired. He also served as US National President of IIT Roorkee Alumni Association. He has organized numerous Roorkee alumni meetings in the US and in India, including an IITR Alumni event addresses by late Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan Prof. Shri Krishna Joshi. He has over 5,500 active IIT Roorkee alumni members in his LinkedIn Network.

Ajit Gupta is a Silicon-Valley based entrepreneur and the founder, President and CEO of Aryaka Networks (, a cloud-based WAN Optimization and application acceleration company. Founded in 2008, and headquartered in Milpitas, CA with offices in Bangalore, India, Aryaka employs more than one hundred people worldwide. Ajit and his team raised $50 million USD in three rounds of funding from InterWest Partners, Presidio Ventures, a Sumitomo Corporation Company, Trinity Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Nexus Venture Partners. Ajit holds 18 technology patents for Internet content delivery and global traffic management and in March 2013, Aryaka was granted a U.S. patent for their WAN Optimization as-a-Service technology. 

Ajit's first successful venture was a company he founded in 1999 - Speedera Networks. Speedera became one of the fastest growing private companies in Silicon Valley and in the North American technology industry in five years, as ranked by both Deloitte & Touche and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
