Dr. Gyan C. Agarwal (BE ’60 EE), Professor Emeritus, University of Illinois at Chicago

Dr. Gyan C. Agarwal is an internationally recognized biomedical researcher with outstanding record of teaching, research and professional service. At Roorkee he received the Dr. A. N. Khosla Gold Medal for best student in B.E. He joined Purdue University in Fall, 1960 and received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. He joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1965 and served as Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

He was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, Journal of Motor Behavior, and Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology. He was member of the Neurological Devices Panel, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Food and Drug Administration (1981-85) and FDA consultant for many years. He was member of the conference committee for IEEE International Conference on Engineering in Medicine and Biology and program chair for 1997 Chicago conference. He was Chairman and Organizer of the Engineering Foundation Conference on Modeling in Neuromuscular Systems, 1982.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (1986, Life Fellow 2006), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1990), and a Founding Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (1992). He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience.
